Sunday Reflections: Thou Shalt Not Covet

I want stuff. Cool stuff. Not cars and mansions and Ski-Doos and crap like that. Mostly toys, awesome, amazing toys. Like this:

If you follow my companion blog The Lunar City (which I don't think anyone does, but whatever, it's still a work in progress), then you know I'm freaking excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO sets that are coming out. My wife hates it when I make 3 dollar purchases at the DI or Goodwill, so I don't know how I'll ever justify buying these sets (for all 3 the total price would be $134.97, plus FREE shipping and a FREE Flashback Shredder minifigure! I could buy it all right now on LEGO's site! SO, TEMPTING!).

Do you ever feel guilty wanting awesome and amazing toys when you can buy more important and boring stuff like food and sectionals? Am I being a selfish turd? Let your voice be heard in the comments below!

  1. Food and bills in my house first then toys....Me and the wife have a deal where we split any extra money so we both can have our indulgences some weeks or months there is extra and others there is not. Let's just say Mason i have traded a lot of toys in the last two years for other ones when there is no cash on hand but boy am i having a blast! lol.

    1. That sounds really fun actually! I have only traded a handful of times, but I really enjoyed it. Let's trade some time!

  2. Mason,
As a father and a christian man, I have struggled with this from time to time as well. Ultimately I think it's about not losing your focus in life, so if toys are taking all of your money and time you may be heading in the wrong direction. But if you let collecting just be something you enjoy and not an obsession, then collect away. Great post by the way!

    1. Wise words indeed. I am trying out the "Minimalist Game" I keep referencing. The game lasts for one month. On the first day you purge one item, on the 2nd day you purge 2 items, 3 items on the third, and so forth until the last day of the month. I saw the idea here: http://www.theminimalists.com/game/

It'll be good fun! I am going to donate, throw away, and mail stuff to friends and family.
