Salt Lake Comic Con 2014: Day 2 Highlights

Comic Con was a crazy fun experience and we saw all sorts of big stars, crazy cosplays, and expensive collectables; but my favorite part of day 2 was the freeing of my inner creative spirit.

We are all of us born creative in some way, then school and society beat it out of us until very few of us believe we are artists anymore. I have tried to hang onto this desire to create, though I still think my drawings kinda suck, I still enjoy drawing a great deal.

I picked up a nice pen for fairly cheap, plus this free art journal from the Salt Lake County Library booth. There's nothing I love more than creating masterpieces with my greatest accomplishment, my wonderful, intelligent daughter Ava.

I may never be a great artist, but I am a father and Ava is the most beautiful thing I have ever created. That Cthulu is pretty awesome too I guess.

  1. Ha! It looks like she is giving your Cthulu the stink eye in picture 2.

    1. Ha ha, yeah! She kept trying to improve my design with her modernist art style. :)

  2. Looks like you and AVA are having a blast. I love illustrating and doodling with my little ones as well. It creates a strong bond and amazing memories with them. Take care bud.

    Also...love the Cthulu!

    1. It's so fun playing with Ava, she's such a cutie! Sometimes I get a little too caught up in my own world. Then I remember what brings me the most joy and that is gonna be my family every time.

I'm glad you like the Cthulu. It's not bad for crayon art. :D

    1. Thanks! I used to get really upset when Ava would photo bomb my blog photo sessions. I realized though that she just wants to play with Daddy, and who am I to rain on her parade? So I started letting her grab toys while I struggled to take fancy pictures, throwing in some Ava pictures to my posts for good measure.

And on the plus side, if I let Ava play with some of my stuff she'll learn to love all the same nerdy stuff I like when she's older. :)

  4. Awesome! I love doodling with my intern too! I try to draw something for her every day, even if it's something super-simple.

    1. That's a great idea, she must love you to pieces! Your little intern inspired me to be a little more lenient with Ava when she would innocently sabotage Papa's toy shots. She just wants to play with all those awesome toys, and who can blame her!? :)
