Nerd Cave Progress - January 2018

Construction of the DI Treasures Nerd Cave has begun, in the only room on the apartment available, the unfinished basement storage room.  At least the kids can't get in and destroy (although they have broken off the child lock before.  I'm sure it's only a matter of time until that happens again).

 BARF!

Real life, it can be ugly.

Robo Rally, safe from the children.

It is a work in progress, still mostly a cluttered storage room, but things are starting to fall into place.  I scored a free TV with 2 AV inputs, so I have hooked up my N64 and PS2 slim for games and as a DVD/CD player.  I need more extension cords and a couch and or comfy chair.  A couch would be a challenge squeezing through the narrow entry way to the basement.

We'll see how far I can come in another month.

Do you have a Nerd Cave?  What is it like?  Where can I see pictures?  Have you been relegated to the basement?

Creepmas 2016 Day 7: GPK Book

The wife got me the awesome newish GPK book for my birthday in November!  It has a nice introduction by Art Spiegelman and an afterword by John Pound.  In between are full color pictures of all the original series 1-5 GPK cards!

The book's even on the smallish side, making it feeling like a jumbo waxpack.  The sleeve even has that waxy feel to it!

And now, more CreePeeKay related cards from series 1-5:

Monday Madness: GPK Goes Funko!

I have never been excited about new Funko figures. I like to buy used, cheaply priced stuff from the DI for goodness sake. Funko figures are new, expensive statues. I like statues, just not expensive ones. Despite my hesitance to purchase any Funko POP! figures I might just give into the madness next year when Garbage Pail Kids merch starts rolling in!

Actually, I doubt I will buy any even then. I din't even buy a single pack of the blind bag GPK Minikins. I will probably ooh and aah at some GPK Funkos on store shelves and snap a few free pics and then move on with my life. Despite that fact, I couldn't help but get excited over the news.

Is anyone else excited for GPK Funko?

Sweetest Day

Peanuts are not candy unless they're in butter form and inside a chocolate cup.

We're about halfway to Halloween, and Columbus Day and Boss's Day are over, it must be Sweetest Day. Thanks to my calendar that is hanging on my cubicle wall i have discovered all sorts of made up holidays and if there's one thing I love it's holidays. Technically, there's a crazy made up holiday for every day of the year, but if it makes it onto a calendar that has to count for something.

My wife and I decided to celebrate Sweetest Day with a trip to The Sweet Tooth Fairy. You may recognize them from Cupcake Wars. (Maybe you don't watch baking reality shows, but if you're a candy freak like myself you probably watch Cake Boss too) Their cupcakes are AMAZING! We especially liked the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cupcakes. Sadly they were out of the Twix cupcakes, so I got a Salted Carmel Witch's Hat. It was a good date night.

Speaking of sweets, I wanted to discuss a classic Countdown to Halloween topic, Trick or Treat candy; the good, the bad, and the inedible. For me, Reese's Peanutbutter Cups are number one, hands down. The worst has to be Circus Peanuts and the more recent Candy Corn Circus Peanuts, an unholy combination of my two least favorite Halloween confections.

What do you think? What's the worst candy or other items have you received? What's your favorite Halloween treat? Tell me in the comments below!

Sunday Reflections: Pooper Bowel Sunday

I love these GPK magnets

When it comes to the Super Bowel, and other sportingly events, I'm a bit of a party pooper. I could care a whole lot less about some boring game. Now, if real live seahawks were battling it out with wild bucking broncos, that would be another story. Honestly though, the last Super Bowel I watched I muted the actual game and only watched the commercials! Ha!

Perfect excuse to show off my Charlie Brown GPK!

But seriously, is watching the Super Bowl on Sunday breaking the Sabbath? Are you a football fan? Who do you think will win Super Bowl XLVIII? What's your opinion?

On The Fourth Day Of Creepmas...

...my ghoul friend gave to me,

4 squawking crows,

The "space crow" in the middle of the group is Psycrow, from the Earthworm Jim video games, by Playmates toys. He set me back 75 cents at the DI. He has a hard time standing because of his weird stance, so he must have originally come with a vehicle or something. The rest of these creepy little guys were in a Halloween clearance bin at the grocery store and were just 50 cents a piece. I assume they're crows, but they kinda look like a mix between an owl, a crow, and a sparrow. Their feathers are made of real bird feathers!

That's one creepy crow.

One of these little guys came with a cool Baron Samedi style top hat instead of a Witch's hat, pretty sweet!

These little creepers look great on the Creepmas tree!

On another note, today is the 7th day of Hanukah! Happy Hanukah everyone! Just one more candle to go!

Monday Morbidity: Garbage Pail Kids

Good old GPK (Garbage Pail Kids)! Everything about them just screams Halloween. I loved flipping through my Dad's old collection of GPK cards.

Whenever someone mentions Hot Pockets I always think of this.

Some of them were pretty brutally violent and I can imagine most moms out there hated these things. Recently, I was a runner-up winner of The Third "One Man's Trash..." Free Giveaway Results at Pop Pop, It's Trash Culture! It's pretty much the best blog around, Brian, AKA The Trash Man, is lord of all trash! In this case trash=insanely awesome treasures like comics, toys, and pins. And speaking of pins, you may have spotted a few pins that I won on a previous post. Just look at these beauties!

These now "live" next to my Cub Scout pins on my coat.

This reminds me of my daughter right now, bless her heart!

The GPK pin came sealed, so I have a nice check list! I wonder what "RADIO ACTIVE!" looks like.
Arthur from The Tick! I love Arthur. He kinda reminds me of Dilbert.

I'm gonna wear these bad boys with pride! Thank you Trash Man, you're my hero!

Also, did you know that there are NEW GPK cards? Well, there are, and when I heard about it I was all over it!

Here's a new pack I picked up recently:

So cute!

This one's my fav of the pack.

Pretty cool Hulk!

One thing I didn't know back then was there was a friggin' movie! It's just as well, even though I loved the cards, this thing probably would've scarred me for life! It got absolutely horrible reviews and the GPKids were creepy as sin! Here's the trailer:
It's currently available on Netflix, I'm tempted to check it out. Should I watch it? I'm scared.

There was even a cartoon too! What the wha!?

Only in the 80s. The glorious, glorious 80s!

Despite the fact that the movie did horribly, there is rumor of a new movie! God help us all.

What do you think of GPK? Do they gross you out or do you wanna catch 'em all? Do you have one with your name on it? I've always wanted one with my name on it. Does anyone own an Amazing Mason, or a Mason Mace? Can I have it? I'll trade ya for it!
