Frugal Friday: The Extreme Fighting Playset

It was bound to happen, I finally caved in and purchased the Extreme Fighting Wrestling Playset from the Dollar Tree. Let's have a look see!

At first sight you may look at this playset and just see a really crappy toy. But keep in mind, you're not always gonna walk into a dollar store and find a The Homer Hot Wheels car every day. Usually you have to look at a dollar toys potential.

The figures that came with the ring are just terrible. The green guy won't even remain standing for more than a few seconds. You have to see past the crappy little wrestling guy figures, think outside the ring

That hideous Extreme Fighting sticker peeled off extremely easily, reveling a lovely diamond plate metal pattern! Why did they even slap that terrible sticker over it anyway?

And of course, you don't have to use this terrible figures when you already have an awesome collection of minifigures! MUSCLE, Battle Beasts, Trashies, Army Men, LEGO minifigures, you name it! You now have a perfect ring for all your minifigure cross-over smack downs!

Of course, the ring is kind of plain, being only one color and all. It does make those colorful minifigures really pop though! I would like to further customize the ring, but I don't have much customizing experience. Do you have any ideas? Has anyone else spotted this hidden gem at the dollar store?

Frugal Friday: Happy All Saints Day!

It's All Saints Day! Does anyone out there celebrate? I like to celebrate the day with the annual Halloween clearance.

I was so tempted to pick up more candy, but my teeth still hurt from Halloween, so for once I showed some will power.

I did pick up some discounted Monster Cereal that I missed out on and these awesome Halloween string lights that were 50% off.

They really do look great on our hearth and I have big plans for them for Creepsmas. We've got some big plans for Creepmas this year, it being the first time we've even heard of the new holiday n' all. It's the perfect opportunity to share all the spooky stuff I didn't get around to during the month of October.

Laura and I were also lucky enough to go  see Ender's game today! It was pretty good, I highly recommend it to fans of the book and Sci-Fi fans everywhere. I spotted this LEGO The Movie poster. So many movies to see, so little time!

I just want to take this moment to thank everyone for there comments, follows and support during this, my first ever Halloween Blogathon! It was pretty crazy and I'm so very very tired! It was all worth it though, I loved every moment of it. I'm probably gonna go a little easier on the posts until Creepsmas and Christmas. Don't worry though, I won't completely fall off the map, I turn the big three-oh on November 21st, so I naturally I love Thanksgiving. Until next time, this is Mason, signing off!

Freudian Friday: The Ouija Board Alternative

Need answers to life's big questions? Are you searching for that special someone but don't know where to look? Don't go messing with Ouija boards to find the answer! Evil spirits are dangerous and want to eat your soul, and besides, Satan is the Prince of All Lies people! What makes you think he'll be telling you the truth about your future? And, it seems like whenever people play with Ouija boards someone's little brother always dies or something. Don't go messing with devils, use science! Because science never hurt anyone, right?

So cool!

Yet another amazing board game find! Kreskin's ESP circa 1967. I picked this puppy up for just $1 at a garage sale! This game caught my eye right away. Just look at the guy on the cover! It's like he hypnotized me into buying this awesome game, though that wouldn't be at all necessary!

Whoa!

Trippy as heck! I love it!

The cards totally remind me of that scene from Ghostbusters.

Am I doing this right?

Look at all this!

As I opened the box I just kept finding more and more stuff like game cards, instructions, score cards, the main board, and game cards for travel, LOVE, Finance, and career!

Here's how the pendulum works.

I still can't get it to work for me.

So the main idea of the game is to utilize your natural ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) in order to answer those burning questions in your life. I don't know if you can really "win".

The 4 areas of testing.

I haven't had a chance to test this out with a group yet, so I have yet to combine my brain waves with others. With this and the Goosebumps Game (and yet another game I have yet to blog about soon) we're gearin' up for one heck of a game night!

Do you believe in ESP? Or is it all just a bunch of pseudoscience?

Frightful Friday: The All New Crimson Crew

I went on a little adventure to The Family Dollar. I hadn't been to one in ages, so I thought I'd pay a visit and see what I could find. While I was there I came across a bin of generic looking, army men type bin of pirates. I almost passed it by, but I decided to peek inside, and I'm glad I did.

Looks like your average cheapo bin of plastic figures, right? Wrong! Hidden away inside I found this:

It's the Flying Dutchman's undead crew! And they're all stained blood red! There was also a scurvy, mortal crew for these immortal monstrosities to slaughter, but who cares about them? Let's take a closer look at the Crimson Crew!

Clearly the Cap'n

Pistol Whippin' Pete

Standard Skeleton Spearman

I like the detail on the shield.

This guy has a scroll in hand. A map leading to untold cursed treasure perhaps?

Awesome sword!

The Bowman is pretty sweet!

I thought these were flags at first, but they're axes.

No cursed pirate crew is complete without a big guy with a medieval chain mace!

They all have a lot of character, despite being skeletons. Some are more scarce than others. I'm also a little surprised at the quality. The figures don't show any signs of flak! There was also a fair number of duplicate figures inside.

The bin also came with the usual butt load of plastic filler. The sizes of the tridents, spyglasses, trees, and sails are way out of proportion with the figures.

These are the best props of the lot.

My money's on the skeletons.

Black Beard will rue the day he messed with Bone Beards motley crew!

Fungal Friday:Halloween In A Garbage Can!

It started out innocent enough, it was a beautiful autumn morning and I decided to take Baby for a nice walk.

We hadn't even walked a block when I came across a tightwad's paradise, the ultimate FREE sign!

No cheapskate like myself can resist such an offer, so we strolled over to the porch first.

A nice couple of owls, perfect for Halloween!

Here's what I pulled from the porch.

The baby looks really sinister

classic yarn art

The flowers really jump out on this one!

This one is my favorite! I hope I can convince Laura into letting me keep it.

Nice, this stuff takes me back to the 60s and 70s! Of course I was born in the 80s, but hey, who doesn't love yarn art?

After I picked through the porch trash I stopped and looked at the dumpster for a minute. Now I've never been a dumpster diver, but I just had to have a peek!

Oh look, an old DI bag. That's usually the mark of a hoarder.

Yes, I pulled a few things out of the trash. My first dumpster dive. I feel dirty. Trash Man and Joe Eyeball would be proud! I left the cans of food, here's what I pulled.

Definatly needs a good scrub

What is this thing? It opens from both ends.

Just look at this cutie! Saved from a life in the dump, just needs to go through the wash. I freaking love owls!

My wife will never wear this. I guess I'll have to wear it when I cook.

All in all, a very profitable stroll! I know my wife won't let any of this into the house. Besides the negative stigma attached to dumpster finds, she also doesn't like "old stuff". Oh well, I can always sell this great junk on Etsy or to a consignment shop. They eat this stuff up!

Vintage!

My sister wants the little owl friend. We seem to share a similar love for good old vintage items. What do all ya'lls think? Have I reached hobo status? Does anyone want any of this stuff?
