In Downtown Salt Lake City lies a favorite old haunt of mine, Capital City Antique Mall. Usually when you think of antique malls you picture overpriced McDonald's toys from the 90's, but I've actually found some good stuff here at some great prices. Here's everything that caught my eye and my little finds I took home:
1960's Halloween pails
Creepy Ben Cooper Pac Man!
Pretty awesome tree! Just not $12 awesome.
Oh snap snap, dooleedoo, snap SNAP! Price is right here, score!
Butt load of turkeys!
A little steep.
Well hello! Customized creepy little figurines, neat.
There was an amazing variety of top ten lists put together last week by the League. Let’s keep it up with this week’s challenge to the Pop Culture League…
Here there be Monsters
‘Tis the Halloween season!
I missed out on last week's top 10 challenge, so here's my top 10 list
Mason's Current Top 11 Monster Toys
Plushies in the back: Generic little green canine I have nicknamed Comet and made the official mascot of my Instagram account @spacemason.
He eats robots as food. To his right is the one eyed duck. For the life of me I can't remember his name. He is the plush version of a toy that is actually from a line of capsule toys, probably A&A brand. I knew the toy line at one point, can anyone help me out?
Front Row Minifigures: Custom made LEGO Cthulu. Jawbreaker from the BurgerKing Z-Bots toy line, and Zar-Zar from Crazy Bones, perfect little army builidng figures! Zar-Zar was available in several colors, which I am trying to hunt down currently.
In The Middle: Mystery vampiric golf ball squeaky toy! I still have yet to ID this weirdo. Rib from Pirates of the Galaxseas acting as spider jockey on a generic spider toy, MADE IN CHINA. And everyones favorite slimy ghost, the vintage classic Slimer! Behinf them we have Frogacuda from the Other World line, and the Playmobil new comer, The Stilt Ghost!!!
So there you have it, my top 11 monster toys in my collection. Always looking to add Jawbreakers and Zar-Zars to the army, and IDs on the vampire golf ball and the one-eyed duck.
What are your favorite monster toys??? Check out more monstrous posts from other League members below!
The Onion really has a good point here, but I think Halloween goes deeper than outward pagan rituals (brief history of Halloween). To me, the true meaning of Halloween isn't about candy, horror movies, decorations, parties, or costumes (though that is a fun part of it now), rather Halloween to me is about facing the one thing most everyone fears...DEATH. Many people are fascinated with death, because there is so much mystery surrounding the topic.
We will all die. Where do we go when we die? Did we exist in some form before birth? Do we cease to exist after death? Everyone has their own beliefs regarding death, it is inescapable. I believe that since so many fear death, Halloween has become a holiday about facing fears, like ghouls, goblins, witches, space aliens, homicidal maniacs, you name it, it's all about fear, fear of death. Jesus Christ overcame death and lived again, resurrected and restored with an immortal body. When I think of Halloween, I think of death, dead leaves fall to the ground, we harvest our crops before the cold death of winter approaches. Death is a part of life, and the Savior takes away the sting of death. So, when you celebrate Halloween this year, don't fear death. The Son of Man hath overcome, all shall be resurrected and live again. Have fun with friends and family, eat some candy, watch spooky movies. Make this mortal existence better for someone else, extend a hand of kindness to another. Carve Jack o' Lanterns with your children. This is the true meaning of Halloween.
What do you think is the true meaning of Halloween? Am I way off, spot on, or somewhere in between? Tell me in the comments below! Happy Halloween everyone!

It's back baby! Some of you may remember the League of Extraordinary Bloggers weekly challenges created by Brian of CoolandCollected.Com Now those blogging challenges are back with a fresh coat of paint and rebranded as The Pop Culture League!
Now on with the show. I was born in '83, so I came into this world just in time to be molded into a Nintendo fan boy. You may remember I have actually already posted about my earliest video game memory when someone with Man Crates randomly contacted me and basically wanted free advertsing from me on their Retro Crate, a crate that I had never heard of before, but whatever, check it out HERE.
You can read about my earliest video game memory above, Super Mario Brothers, still the best!
Which leads me to this...
Don't ask me why it's so hard to find a good quality clip of this. Probably copy right infingement or something stupid. If I actually watched any of the Olympics I would have loved this. Long live Mario!
Since I have already shared my thoughts on Mario before, I thought I would touch on the next video game I encountered that wasn't part of the NES library. No, I'm not talking arcades, though I would later learn to appreciate such classics as Mario Brothers, Dig-Dug, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, among others. My next experience with video games was in the classroom. I'm talking Oregon Trail ya'll!
Man, dysentery claimed many a soul! Once my brother was bit by a rattler. Basically most of what I remember of this game was diverse ways to die in the wilderness. Fun and educational! I wish this game would finally get the reboot it deserves! Oh, wait...
