This Game Will Give You Goosebumps!

I've come across some great games for cheap recently, and Goosebumps Shrieks and Spiders Game is definitely in my top 13.

I found this sweet game at the DI for $1.50. My favorite pieces are these Goosebumps "chips". I'm not falling for it though, these are Pogs! It's too bad, because the game is %99.9 complete because it's missing one "chip". Dang it! Oh well, 15 out of 16 ain't bad!

Up to 4 players can play. You try not to lose any "chips" to win.

Nice n' colorful cards

The Dummy, Mummy, Curly the Skeleton, Mud Monster, and Hamster cards

I consider Slappy to be the quintessential Goosebumps villain.

Of all the Goosebumps monsters, I think Slappy the Dummy takes the cake. Night of The Living Dummy I,II, and III were awesome. The Monster Blood series wasn't nearly as scary, but I really liked the story as a kid.

Here's how to play:

Some kid did his math homework on here!

So yes, the rules are a bit infantile, but it still looks looks like a lot of fun! Totally worth the buck fifty just for the Pogs alone!

Halloween Nerdtivities

This week’s assignment from the League: Halloween photo assignment

Halloween is nearly upon us, but there’s still time for another Halloween weekly topic! This week’s assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers …
Photo assignment: Grab your camera and snap a few pictures of how you, or your home town, is celebrating the greatest holiday of the year: Halloween!
REMEMBER!: The League is always open to new members! Got a blog? Write a post in response to the weekly challenge, and you’ll be included. It’s that easy!
During Halloween, Laura and I mostly stay at home and participate in our own Halloween Nerdtivities.

Reading!

Laura and I both love to read, but we hate spending too much money on books, so naturally we are total library nerds. I like to borrow all the spooky books and comics I can read this time of year. The Bone series is a yearly must read.

Drawing!

OMFG! concept art of mine

My idea for the next monster cereal flavor, Bonilla.

Mr. Hungry

Mr. Slimy

Mr. Creepy

Mr. Hairy

Mr. Glum

Mr. Kran

I've been known to dabble in the art world. I love to draw and I'm pretty much the best I know of. I started drawing Mr. Monsters a while ago. They're pretty much a spooky version of the Mr. Men and Little Miss books that were so big in the 70's. I'd like to submit some of them to the next OMFG! figure series. If I had the means and the know how I'd totally make my own figures.

Decorating!

Not the best setup. The neglected potted plants fit right in now.

This was the first year we decorated outside, thanks to the kind donation. Also, who says toys aren't decorations?

These are just a few of our favorite Halloween activities. What do other Leaguers do to celebrate?

Jamie takes a stroll around her neighborhood and checks out the local decor at Whatever I Think Of.

The Flatwoods Monster

Aliens have crept their way into Halloween and it's no wonder. They're super intelligent, butt ugly beings heck bent on turning our insides out and raising the next alien hybrid brood!

The "Greys" are pretty dang creepy, but my favorite alien being (well, right after Alf) has to be The Flatwoods Monster.

My very first experience with the Flatwoods Monster was actually through the popular Legend of Zelda video game, Majora's Mask. I knew nothing of the creature at the time, but I knew for dang sure that these things weren't "ghosts". Years later I discovered that the Majora's Mask ghosts were clearly based on the Flatwoods Monster.

(Great theme song for The Flatwoods Monster)

I soon after discovered that the beast had slipped its way into yet other video games!

Amagon final boss (SPOILER ALERT!)

It can even be summoned forth in Super ScribbleNauts!

There was also an interesting documentary about The Flatwoods Monster on the History channel that I rather enjoyed. It's kinda long, but it's worth watching.

Lastly, the Phantom of Flatwoods has been immortalized in toy form:

Man, what an awesome toy! Creepy, yet awesome.

Monday Mystery: Name That Monster

I was digging through the toy drawer and I came across a little monster. I remember playing with this little guy when I was a kid. I can't recall what toy line he's from though.

His mouth is just a big hole that goes straight through!

Does anyone out there know who this little guy is?

Sunday Reflections: Violent Entertainment

Halloween and violent horror movies pretty much go hand in hand. We've all heard the argument that violent video games, movies, and TV shows can desensitize us and make us violent ourselves.

Like most moms, my Mom hated violent video games. And like most boys, my brother and I love violent video games. Our Mom kept making us turn off Goldeneye, so we told her that the red stuff wasn't blood, it was just paint, we're in paintball mode. It didn't really explain away explosives, but it seemed to satisfy my Mom. She even wrote right on the cartridge,"Paintball ONLY, Permission Item".

I have been a fan of the Resident Evil series ever since I watched my friend Sean play Resident Evil 2 on his PS1. When you play a Resident Evil game it's like you're inside a horror zombie flick! It just brings such a high of scary fun! Of course with a name like Resident Evil my Mom hated it right away.

As far as movies go I tend to prefer older horror movies, such as Psycho or the Universal Monster movies. I just saw World War Z and I thought it was alright. For the most part slasher movies have too much disturbing violence and gore for my taste. The computer animated Resident Evil movies, based on the video game series, are pretty cool and the gore didn't bother me. For some reason violence and gore doesn't bother me as much if it's in a video game, go figure.

Is it true that violent video games and horror movies are altering our brains and turning us into psychopaths? Or is all this just conjecture? What should we let our kids watch? Is there an acceptable level of violence and gore? What do you think?

Part Of This Haunted Breakfast!

The key ingredient to any Halloween breakfast is sugar, and lots of it! So, ditch the nasty grapefruit as I present to you this horrifyingly unbalanced breakfast!

Ah yeah, they're back! Fruity Yummy Mummy and Frute Brute! I think it's called "Frute" because there isn't any real fruit in it, just loads and loads of sugar. I had to pick up a box of my favorite, Boo Berry. The cereal's not that great, but I love ghosts, and look at that awesome hat! Boo Berry has class!

Good morning sunshine!
Yummy Mummy was pretty good, but I think I prefer the Brute over it.

Antonia, my kid sister stopped by for some Boo Berries.

It's alive! Monster Mash!
The Monster Cereals tasted best with their paranormal powers combined! I call it Monster Mash!

There was one more box of freaky cereal I just had to pick up.

Love the box art.

Spooky, greenish milk.

Halloween Crunch! I'm a big fan of the Cap'n so I just had to get it. The "ghosts turn the milk green"!

Now, no haunted breakfast is complete without gallons of milk! I eat everything with a spoon and I fill my cereal bowl full with milk.

You've got your standard chocolate variety, and then of course there's....

ORANGE MILK!? Heck yes! This stuff's so good! Nothin' goes better with orange milk than Monster Donuts!

Best holiday donuts I've ever seen!

These donuts are pretty fun. I can't believe how much effort was put into these! Usually store bought "Halloween" donuts just have some black and orange sprinkles or something, but these are just gorgeous! The green pumpkin was my favorite. They were quite tasty.

Had enough sugar yet? Well, hang on to your insulin, because we're not nearly through yet!

Cookies? For breakfast?
That's right! Cookies for breakfast! You can only get away with this one time a year! Besides, when you have milk you must eat some Oreos. I completely emerge my Oreos in the milk and eat them with a spoon, just like cereal.

The milk really makes the spooky imagery pop. I really wanted to snag some Limited Edition Candy Corn Oreos, even though candy corn pretty much tastes like "a decroded piece of crap" I still wanted to try it out. Apparently they're selling on freaking eBay! Not only do we have toy scalpers, but now we have candy scalpers too!? Come on! Oh we'll, I found something better.

Peanut Butter Oreos! These are so good and they save me a step in my Oreo eating process. I'll take these over Candy Corn Oreos any day!

And last but not least, there are Pumpkin Poptarts! Still haven't been able to find any though. Caffeinated Joe got me craving them.

Now that you're filled with sugar you'll have the energy you need to haunt the neighborhood all morning, right after you watch My Top 13 Halloween Toons of course. Man, I love Halloween!

Are there any Halloween breakfast essentials that I've forgotten?

Frightful Friday: The All New Crimson Crew

I went on a little adventure to The Family Dollar. I hadn't been to one in ages, so I thought I'd pay a visit and see what I could find. While I was there I came across a bin of generic looking, army men type bin of pirates. I almost passed it by, but I decided to peek inside, and I'm glad I did.

Looks like your average cheapo bin of plastic figures, right? Wrong! Hidden away inside I found this:

It's the Flying Dutchman's undead crew! And they're all stained blood red! There was also a scurvy, mortal crew for these immortal monstrosities to slaughter, but who cares about them? Let's take a closer look at the Crimson Crew!

Clearly the Cap'n

Pistol Whippin' Pete

Standard Skeleton Spearman

I like the detail on the shield.

This guy has a scroll in hand. A map leading to untold cursed treasure perhaps?

Awesome sword!

The Bowman is pretty sweet!

I thought these were flags at first, but they're axes.

No cursed pirate crew is complete without a big guy with a medieval chain mace!

They all have a lot of character, despite being skeletons. Some are more scarce than others. I'm also a little surprised at the quality. The figures don't show any signs of flak! There was also a fair number of duplicate figures inside.

The bin also came with the usual butt load of plastic filler. The sizes of the tridents, spyglasses, trees, and sails are way out of proportion with the figures.

These are the best props of the lot.

My money's on the skeletons.

Black Beard will rue the day he messed with Bone Beards motley crew!
